Marriott International: room for all
Marriott’s goal was to create an inclusive hotel room that goes beyond code requirements, making stays in the hotel more enjoyable. They wanted to develop a room that both looked and felt good, addressing emotional well being.
Role: Inclusive Design Consultant
Main Challenge: Changing designers’ perspectives of designing for inclusion as benefiting only those with disabilities to recognizing that it often benefits everyone.
Key Contributions: Trained 10 designers on inclusive design methods, critiqued hotel room designs, and contributed design ideas.
Outcomes: The final design took 15% less space than the average hotel room size. Leadership is currently considering expanding the project to other Marriott brands.
